The 2008 Sea Glass Festival - Cape Henlopen, Lewes, Del. etc.,
An absolutely beautiful day. My wife ( Lori) and two of our long time friends Jay and Donna Barnett left Philly early Sun. morning and drove to Lewes, De. to the University of Del. Virden center for the annual North American Sea Glass Festival and "Shard of the Yr." contest. The festival was packed, thousand attended and hundreds of people entered the contest along with myself. I didn't win, but the festival didn't disappoint. I got my edition of "Pure Sea Glass" signed by it's author Richard La Motte. We enjoyed the vendor displays of different types of art and jewelry all made from Sea Glass from across the world. Later in the day we took a break from the contest and went on a side trip to Cape Henlopen State park and the beach there. It was in the mid. 70's and people were still swimming and surfing all up and down the beach. We also went into the old town of Lewes to walk about and check out the shops. On the way back to Philly we stopped at a great sea food restaurant with the best roadside attraction I've seen in decades the "real" propeller from the decommissioned Aircraft carrier Shangri La. You cannot beat Lewes, Cape Henlopen or the Delaware beaches for a great day trip or vacation in the fall. Next yrs. Sea Glass festival is in Erie, Pa, on Lake Erie which was the location of this yrs. best of Shard winner. You can bet we'll be there!
