I remember reading something--so what I read could've been wrong, or what I remember about what I've read could be wrong--anyway, I think I remember reading somewhere that it is a punishable offense to talk/joke/etc about "killing" or threatening a presidential candidate (or could it have been about the sitting president in an election year?) So wouldn't inciting violence fall in the same category? Provoking a "hate crime" would also make one an accomplice to any act of violence resulting from such instigation. Truly despicable behavior--one really has to wonder about the "religious" right. Whose religion is it, anyway, when they provoke hatred and fear?
